Why is this one of Our Favorite Sunday Family Lunch Ideas?
They are individual servings so there is no need to worry about who doesn’t want this ingredient or that, they can just leave it off of their own crunchwrap. Another great thing about these crunchwraps is that you can put pretty much anything inside of them so they never get boring. They are also quite filling and of course… delicious!
I don’t know about you, but Sundays are an interesting day in our home. They can either be incredibly relaxing and chill or we’re off and running, doing this and that around town.
When we’re not at the Sunday Brunch Farmer’s Market or hiking the South Carolina State Parks on a Sunday afternoon, then we’re relaxing, cleaning, organizing, and getting ready for the upcoming week.
And that is where this great Sunday family lunch idea comes in! It’s perfect if we’re on the go and heading out for a hike and equally amazing if we’re just lounging around the house trying to catch up after a long week.
Crunchwrap Supreme Vegan Options
If you’re looking for vegan options for your crunchwrap, we like to use Violife or Follow Your Heart shredded cheese as well as Siete Cashew Queso dip. For the protein, we’ll use tofu or Gardien crumbles and load up on black beans and refried beans.
How to Make a DIY Crunchwrap Supreme at Home
Making a DIY Crunchwrap Supreme at home is super easy! Just assemble your ingredients and let everyone customize their own crunchwrap! To assemble your crunchwraps you are going to want to use the largest flour tortillas that you can find, burrito sized or larger will work best.
How to Assemble a Crunchwrap
There are two different ways that you can assemble your crunchwraps: you can place your meat and cheese on the flour tortilla and then place the tostada on top of it. On top of the tostada put your lettuce, tomatoes, and onions (your cold toppings if you would), and then you are ready to fold your crunch wrap.
Place tostada on top of large burrito-sized tortilla. We like to use the stack of Pueblo Lindo tostadas from ALDI. The other way to assemble your crunchwrap is to place the tostada in the center of the flour tortilla and put all of your toppings on it. Then you fold your flour tortilla on top of the tostada.
Layer protein on top of the tostada shell; honestly you can do all of this in any order you prefer, this is just one way. Like we mentioned before you can put just about anything in your crunchwrap supreme.
Shredded chicken or pork, ground beef, turkey, or chicken seasoned with taco seasoning, refried beans or seasoned black beans are great options for your protein.
In addition to your protein you will also need a few other ingredients. Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, shredded cheese or cheese sauce, all go well inside of crunchwraps.
You can even add these to your weekly meal plan with little to no additional effort. If you’re already planning on having tacos or fajitas for dinner earlier in the week, simply make extra meat when you are cooking those dishes. You can then put the extra meat in the fridge for later to save yourself time in the kitchen. The same goes with your veggies, just prepare a little extra, then all you have to do is assemble your crunchwraps after a long day or for a fast lunch.
What Goes Inside a Crunchwrap?
Don’t have any tostadas in the house? Not a problem. You can substitute them with broken taco shells or crush some tortilla chips and place those on top of your tortilla. Don’t have cheese sauce on hand? No worries. It’s easier and more health to make your own at home.
All you need is a little flour, a little butter, your favorite cheese, and a little milk. Start with a roux. You’ll need one 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of flour. Melt the butter then add in the flour and cook it down to a roux. Add in two cups of milk and let the roux dissolve then add cheese to taste. Pepper Jack cheese sauce would be great on these homemade crunchwraps and you can make cheese sauce in minutes.
Healthier Options for a DIY Crunchwrap at Home
If you are trying to keep things a bit more healthy, use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Then just load it up with veggies and use reduced-fat shredded cheese. You can see that these homemade crunchwrap supremes are very versatile. They only take minutes to make and the whole family is going to love them. So what are you going to put on your homemade crunchwrap?
How to Fold a Crunchwrap
If you’re wondering how to fold a crunchwrap, you’re in luck. The folding process is the same no matter which way you assemble your crunch wrap. All you need to do is tuck in each of the sections in over the tostada; this takes a bit of maneuvering but once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll be folding crunchwraps like a pro!
Once the wrap is folded it is time to give it some crunch. Place a small amount of oil in your skillet and brown it lightly on both sides. Remove from the skillet, place it on a plate, and serve warm.
We like to serve these with guacamole or queso on the side as well as tomato salsa, pico de gallo, or tomatillo salsa verde for dipping. If you’re looking for a dessert that is just as easy, try pairing it with another of our favorites; these easy DIY ice cream sandwich cookies.
