If you’re seeking lessons for typing kids will love, Typesy might just be what you’re looking for. Recently I was presented with the opportunity to review Typesy, which is a touch-typing/keyboarding program designed to teach users to type through video tutorials, typing lessons, and exercises that are scientifically-backed, designed, and researched to promote success.
It keeps students motivated with fun games and incentives within the software program so they can stay on task and excel in their keyboarding. I have been on the hunt for a quality keyboarding program for my 10-year-old for some time now, so naturally, I was excited to have the opportunity to try out the Typesy software in our homeschool.

Typesy has been used by companies, individuals, and schools to teach keyboarding and touch-typing skills, and now homeschooling families can get in on the action!
According to the Typesy website, “typing ability is the fundamental core to computer literacy and one of the most important skills any child can master from an early age. Without expert typing, it will be slower and more difficult to complete homework, projects, and papers and eventually meet the demands of college and the workforce.
Kids Typing Programs are an Important Investment in Your Child’s Future
National education standards also agree as expert keyboarding skills are required by the national common core curriculum. For just these reasons alone, homeschooled children cannot afford to miss out on all of the academic advantages that come with being great at keyboarding.”
After reviewing Typesy, I came up with a few reasons why homeschooling parents may want to consider incorporating the touch-typing and keyboarding software into their homeschool routine.
8 Reasons to Use Typesy to Teach Your Child Keyboarding Skills
So, why should you use Typesy to teach your child how to type? Here are 8 of my top reasons for recommending you use Typesy in your own homeschool.
1. Typesy Offers Kids Typing Lessons That are Engaging and Fun
If you’re like me, you’ve got a million things going on at once. Not only am I a homeschooling mom, but I’m also a business owner – more specifically, a freelance writer with constant looming deadlines – so sometimes during the homeschool day, I need to get work done.
But, I also need to homeschool. Typesy makes things easy because the program does all the teaching for you. With engaging video lessons, your child works independently. This gives you time to get things done around the house or work with other children.
2. The Ability to Track Your Child’s Progress
It’s difficult to help your child master a skill if you’re unaware of where they stand in terms of progress. Typesy takes the guesswork out of everything as it will track your child’s progress. This lets you know how far your child has come and also alerts you to situations where they may need a little bit of extra practice.
3. Typesy Creates a Customized Learning Path for Each Child
Because the program tracks your child’s progress, the assignments are customized to the child’s particular level. This is ideal if you’re homeschooling multiple children at varying levels. Everyone can use the program, everyone has their own unique login and classwork curriculum to follow (that you assign) so it’s perfect for busy parents.
4. You’ll Be Able to Stay on Top of Everything Through the Parent Dashboard
As homeschooling moms, we’re in charge of keeping everyone organized and on task. In some states, we’re also required to provide portfolios of our student’s work. Typesy makes homeschooling easy because you’ll have access to a parent dashboard that gives you all the information you need and then some, to stay on top of your responsibilities as a homeschooling family and gives you the tools you need to help your child master their keyboarding skills.

5. Learn From Home or On-the-Go via Tablet or iPad
As a family who is constantly on the move, whether it’s driving to local historic sites or roadschooling during our fun family travel adventures, we always bring schoolwork with us. Typesy can be used at home or loaded on a tablet or iPad, so your child can continue practicing while on route to family adventures or during downtime during vacation.
6. Typesy is Not Just Touch-Typing
Yes, your child will get expert keyboarding practice with Typesy, but the learning doesn’t stop there. Typesy offers additional curricula within the software program to help your child excel in a variety of ways. With offerings like Computer/IT courses and Career/Success guidance, there’s enough within the program to keep your child engaged, learning, and excelling for quite some time.
7. The Program will Grow Right Along With Your Child
There are four initial programs within Typesy. For younger learners, the K-2 Keyboarding curriculum and Typesy Kids 2.0 provide lessons for children from Kindergarten through Grade 8. Older kids and adults will enjoy the Interactive 2.0 curriculum.
My first typing class took place in the nineties, so I’ve been at it for quite some time, but I’m looking forward to delving into Typesy’s Professional 2.0 curriculum which is an advanced course geared toward professionals.
8. Typesy Offers Printable Lesson Plans
If you prefer a more hands-on approach or if you wish to extend the learning, within each lesson there are printable lessons that you as your child’s learning coach can incorporate to provide additional practice, set up the lesson, or extend the learning. Typesy has truly thought of everything.
How We’re Using Typesy Kids Typing Program in Our Homeschool
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to review Typesy in my homeschool. I had used a variety of kids typing programs with my older kids in the mid-2000s but I’m excited to see how typing programs have changed and progressed over the years.
Typesy will definitely be a regular part of our homeschool going forward. Typing is an essential skill every student should have, and the earlier the better. “Typesy Time” is built into our homeschool schedule and is the first thing I put in my planner every Sunday afternoon.
Because my son has an interest in coding and computers, I have him work in Typesy for about 30 minutes per day, three times a week. Sometimes he’ll even ask to work on it. When he does, I need to ensure he’s going in to work on it rather than just playing games. For that reason, I’m happy that Typesy provides an option to turn off the game portion of the software if necessary.
Overall, I am more than pleased with Typesy as an option for teaching keyboarding in our homeschool. I’m truly grateful for the company and my participation in the Melanated Gold Review Squad.
